Love Poem

In yesterday’s film
Granite jaw he stands
The confidence of brown eyes
With lashes storied

Now softened all

And loved and lived in
This skin has never seen an iron
Or a chain

He opens in sleep and sprawls
Comfort
And safe
With me by his side
I do not deserve his trust
Yet he snores

Dear Reader

Things have been unsettled
But not unhopeful
Nights put on their kindest faces
And fade
I myself am a tack about to come loose of the corkboard
And all my letters will fall
I myself am a magnet polarizing and plain
Circular thoughts
I myself am quite myself
Until I’m not
At the seams

Mourning

Without you, the sun darkens
Cold settles in
Home becomes hollow
I feel the weight of my heart

Without you, laughter hurts
as the world keeps turning
My breath noticeable
Folding myself into origami
Shapes

I’ll see you
In full regalia
Arms outstretched or crossed
At my performance here
Without you

We’ll embrace again
My guardian angel
While we’re apart

Half-awake

Feeling off-center
Lean into the collapse
Inevitable

Sleep begrudges me
A closed eye
A half recollected dream

The sheer force of people talking
A wind a river rushing along

I stand on the bank and consider setting in a toe

When I know he would dive in

The Infinite

Upon the earth wind’s farthest reach into space’s gravity, I wander
Resurge in birdsong
A final note of the starling
Who sang to sleep in lullabies
And all man-made things

What use is reach
When one cannot attain?

All the worlds in thy sight
And all the moons in their beds
Make up for losing that song

Dazzled

Upon the east wind he rides in
Of nebulas and natural notes
Of turbulence and chaos
I dare not meet his gaze
Not I who doubted him so fiercely
And yet there is summer calm in his eyes
As I glance up
In winter’s dreariest edge.
